Sydney Williams

I am a first-year osteopathic medical student from Fayetteville, Georgia. I have a bachelor's degree in Neuroscience from Georgia State University and a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Geisinger School of Medicine. I love to travel and have developed a passion for global health over the years. This passion has been fueled by engaging in medical volunteer opportunities in Ghana, Costa Rica, and Tanzania. These experiences have also deepened my commitment to addressing disparities in healthcare at home. Beyond practicing medicine, I aim to involve myself in medical policy to be able to protect women's medical rights at a legislative level.

I have always loved science. My aspirations to become a doctor are rooted in personal experience and cultural awareness. I want people to feel a sense of comfort when entering a hospital, doctor’s office, or clinic. I also value my health and having balance in life. I eat healthily and embrace a fitness and self-care routine I love. I also enjoy reading, crocheting, drawing, and painting.

Congratulations to the 2022 Scholarship Winner!

I want to help as many communities as I can and improve clinical psychiatry with my engineering and artistic background. The more I explore the relationships between our gut-brain axis and mental health, the more I want to challenge conventions and improve existing medical models. I aim to get a biology degree at Boston College to start off my journey in healthcare as a future physician. Needless to say, medicine should be viewed holistically so I want to advance the field beyond surgical procedures and prescription bottles.
